Memorial Day Weekend Recap

Happy Tuesday! I know it’s going to feel like Monday all day and the whole week will likely feel off. I guess that means Friday will seem like it gets here even faster though. I’m not sure how fast I want to be wishing the week away though since it is already almost June (!!!) already! I hope everyone took a minute to remember what Memorial Day is all about and thanked those who have served or are currently serving. Freedom isn’t free and we have so many opportunities thanks to those who have put their life on the line for us. Before I get too far ahead of myself, it’s time for the Memorial Day weekend recap!

Friday started off with a celebration of our friend Judy’s retirement! We travel with Judy and her husband Larry quite often and Judy retired on Friday so there was a big celebration in her honor! So many people showed up and several people spoke at the reception also. I thought it was a great way to honor a really wonderful woman!

After the reception, Lane and I were invited out with Larry and Judy and their families for a celebration dinner! It was fun to have a chance to sit and chat with everyone that we didn’t get to talk to much at the reception. It looked like storms were rolling in as it started to get darker, so we cut the evening a bit short and headed home.

After we got home, we changed into comfy clothes and just relaxed! It’d been a long week and a long day so it was just what both of us needed!

Saturday, Sunday and Monday were primarily spent at the house. We did so many different projects – we finished putting up sheetrock in the basement, started taping and mudding the basement, stained and finished too many baseboards and pieces of trim to count, worked on cabinets, and the most exciting one – started putting in the wood flooring!

In between all of that, I got to spend some time babysitting the kids on Monday for awhile. I came over while they were jumping on the trampoline with the sprinkler underneath it, so it was fun (and wet) to be a part of that. Then once we were all tired, we went inside and watched an episode of Guy’s Grocery Games. They basically talked through the whole episode and I’ve never seen the show before so I really can’t tell you if I liked it or not. But I like most Food Network shows, so it’s a safe bet that I would.

Watchin TV-1

In the evenings, Lane and I watched a few shows. We started Sherlock and Bones. I’ve seen many episodes of Bones, but have always wanted to start from the beginning and watch it all the way through. After working at the house all day (all weekend) about the only thing we could stand to do in the evenings was watch a show or two!

Sunday night we watched the documentary on The Barkley Marathons. That’s some crazy stuff! I have to say that while I find it fascinating and am totally in awe of all the people who even start the race, I have no interest in ever doing it! That seems crazy hard!

Monday morning I did get in a long-ish run! I ran 11 miles – actually, I ran 6 miles, went and said hi and bye to Susan and Johnny as they were driving through on their way home, then went back home and ran another 5 miles. I guess that still counts as a long run though, right? It was a good run, I wish I would have had time to run a few more miles!

So that was my weekend! It was exhausting and I feel like I need a weekend to recover, but I’m so happy with everything we got done and it was so fun to celebrate with Judy and see Susan, even for a short period of time. I’m excited to finish the house so we can see our friends again!

Did you do anything special over the long weekend? Are you ready to go back to work after a long weekend or do you need time to recover? Do you like to watch documentaries – if so, have you seen any good ones recently?

  • We watched the The Barkley Marathons documentary a few weeks ago! It was crazy good and just bit just crazy! I also found race recaps from past years winners online, if there was a winner, that is. I like them even better than the film. What grit and determination these runners have.

  • YAY!! Congratulations to Judy; that’s exciting! I’m glad you and Lane were able to celebrate with her this weekend! I actually worked yesterday, so no big plans, but Jonathan was off and he had the grill going by the time I got home (I did leave about an hour early) so it kind of felt like a holiday!
