I’m a person who needs a challenge. That’s why I love training for marathons. I love the marathon itself, but the training is what I love the most. I love the structure it provides and I have a goal to work towards. I do well with a goal. I’ve been a bit lost the last few months. It’s been so nice to not have to worry about getting in certain workouts when we didn’t know what the plan would be each day with the new house, but as we prepare to finish that chapter, I’m looking for something new. I’m not quite ready to get back into marathon training quite yet, but I’m looking for a challenge.
Enter the Amerithon Challenge. I liked the run the year challenge for 2015. I liked that it gave me incentive to hit certain mileage goals for the week. There were weeks it was hard and other weeks, especially high mileage weeks, it was pretty easy. By the end of the year, I was definitely ready to be done and I needed the break, the house stuff ended up coming at a good time for a break too.
The Amerithon Challenge is 3,521 miles that you can complete in any time frame (though a year is suggested). You can do it on your own or with as many as a team of 8. Lane and I are planning to do it together like we did the Run the Edge Challenge. The part that makes this one a bit more manageable is that we can count any miles – running, walking, biking, elliptical, swimming, etc. I’m excited to have something to work toward and it will work with marathon training if I decide to train for a race at any point.
